Faith to Overcome, how can I increase my faith?

Faith to Overcome

1 John 5:4-5 NIV   for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

There are a number of TV preachers today (sometimes called “faith preachers”) teaching a doctrine of “hyper faith.” The concept is that if you have enough faith that you can make any request and God will honor it (often called, “name it and claim it”.) It is suggested that, if you have enough faith, you can *know* that God will give you whatever you want. It is a very appealing concept to the materialist mindset of people today. And, these preachers often hedge their bets by blaming the seeker for not having enough faith when their request is not answered.

Who is my brother?

who is my brother

Larry, Daryl, and Daryl from “Newhart”

Who is my brother?

1 John 1:7-10 NIV But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.   If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.

Who are our “brothers” and “sisters” in Christ? We have many calls today for an “ecumenical” union of the various religions. Secular (and even religious) leaders rehearse the phrase, “many paths to the same God.” Continue reading

Love is Where You Leave it

love is where you leave it

My view of the world for 5 days

Love is Where You Leave it – experiences in the hospital over the Christmas holidays.

Over the course of the last 45 days I have undergone two surgeries and spent a total of 8 days in the hospital. I just returned from a five day stay. A month of discomfort from the first surgery and then, due to a lingering infection, a repeat operation that seemed to also be in trouble.

During my time in a hospital bed I had plenty of time. At times I was tempted to complain about my situation. Continue reading

4 Reasons Smile

Smile. It makes people wonder what you have been up to!

Reasons Smile

What’s so funny? (Click on the picture to read a cute poem about smiling.)

Many years ago I saw a card on a friend’s desk with that saying printed on it. I have never forgotten it.

The saying is true but it is also very sad. What has our world become that we are (almost universally) so cynical?

(Web definition of Cynical: 1. believing that people are motivated by self-interest; distrustful of human sincerity or integrity.)

What would our world be like if we smiled because we were truly happy?

Reasons Smile

1 Thessalonians 5.16 (MSG) Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live.

If you feel like smiling, then SHARE this and pass it along! 🙂

Ready for Armageddon?

Are You Ready for Armageddon?

This question continues to plague people every day. The state of the world, political unrest, never ending racial issues, destabilized economy, and a plethora of other problems remind us that we must be living in the day of apocalypse. But the Bible encourages us that – if we are children of God – there is no reason to fear or worry. Here is a quote from from the Message Bible.

1 Thessalonians 5:1-11 MSG Continue reading
